Sustainability

We started Matayi because we were tired of the waste and shortcuts in fast fashion. As mums, we’re already juggling enough—we don’t need jewellery that tarnishes in a month or packaging that feels like a landfill in a box.

Here’s how we’re building a more responsible jewellery brand:

1. Made to last, not to landfill

Our jewellery is crafted from solid gold (10k, 14k, or 18k) and 925 sterling silver— no brass, no green skin. These materials aren’t just premium—they’re practical. They hold their value, resist tarnishing, and can stand up to daily wear. That means fewer replacements, less waste, and jewellery you can keep—or pass on—for years to come.

2. Low-waste packaging

We keep our packaging simple and practical. Just what’s needed to protect your piece during shipping—nothing more, nothing excessive. Less bulk means less waste and easier handling for you (and your postie).

3. Ethical sourcing

We partner only with suppliers who share our standards for safe working conditions, fair labour, and who can demonstrate a clear and ethical sourcing process. Our diamonds and gemstones are sourced through responsible, vetted channels. It’s not perfect—yet—but we believe transparency and continuous improvement matter.

Sustainability is in the small decisions

It’s in choosing quality over quantity. In buying once, not twice. And in owning jewellery that can be loved, worn, and even resold instead of thrown away. Because we use high-quality, real materials, your Matayi jewellery holds value over time. If your style changes, you can choose to resell or repurpose it. Precious metals don’t belong in landfill—and ours are made to stay in circulation.

We’re not perfect—but we’re committed to improving. If you have ideas, feedback, or questions, email us at tips@matayi.com. We’d love to hear from you.
